Confirmed reduction
The official patch notes and an independent report both state a 75% reduction in the Gloom cost of Tarforge weapon smelting. The notes do not provide one universal flat post-patch price.

Why the change matters
The lower cost reduces the penalty for reconsidering a weapon choice. A cautious approach is to compare your current weapon, the alternative, and the displayed in-game smelting cost before spending Gloom; the patch makes experimentation cheaper but does not make every switch automatically worthwhile.
Do not use a flat cost copied from another player unless the game shows the same context for you. The verified information is the 75% reduction, not a universal number.

Upgrade decision checklist
Before smelting, check the displayed Gloom price, the weapon's post-patch changes, the resources you need for the next upgrade, and whether your current build actually benefits from switching. This checklist is editorial guidance built around the confirmed cost reduction.

How to interpret a 75% reduction
A 75% reduction means the comparable new cost is one quarter of the old cost. If the old displayed cost is C, the simple comparison is C multiplied by 0.25. This is a percentage explanation, not a claim about a specific in-game price; always use the value currently displayed by your Tarforge.
The practical gain is flexibility. You can reconsider a weapon with a smaller Gloom penalty, which matches the developer's stated goal of supporting weapon switches without hours of New Game Plus grinding. It still does not show which weapon is best for your build or whether another use of Gloom has higher value.

Common smelting mistakes
Do not publish or follow a universal flat-price table from these patch notes; only the percentage reduction is confirmed. Do not compare screenshots from different contexts without checking the displayed conditions. Finally, do not smelt solely because the cost fell: confirm the target weapon, remaining resources, and reason for switching before committing.
